Safe Routes to School (SRTS)

Welcome back to school! We hope everyone enjoyed your summer. Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is ready for a great 2020-2021 school year; we hope you’re ready to join us. SRTS is a program working in your child’s school to make it easier and safer for students to walk and bike to school.  Helping your child walk or bike to school is important!  Students who walk or bike to school get more physical activity, develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime, and arrive at school more alert and ready to learn.

SRTS serves students in your school district. It works because of parent and student participation.  Safe Routes to School encourages group travel: walking, biking, carpooling, and riding the school bus to get your child to and from school safely.

Walking School Bus is a group of students walking to school with one or more adults.

Bicycle Train is a group of students and adult leaders who ride their bikes together to school.

Park-and-Walk is a program that makes use of an off-site location as a parking area for parents (such as a nearby street, church, or park) who then walk their child to school or join a regularly scheduled walking school bus to complete their journey.

Carpooling with other families helps to reduce traffic congestion at the school.

We could use your help!  If you are interested in volunteering for roles such as a Parent Champion, Walk/Bike to School Day, Walking School Bus or Bike Rodeos, please send a message or email to erin.billings@lposd.orgBe sure to "like" our FaceBook page for safety tips, newsletters, and upcoming events: Safe Routes to School Sandpoint Idaho LPOSD 84

Save the Date: Oct 7th is International Walk to School Day

International Walk to School Day is a global event of schools in more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. Begun in 1997 it’s now a celebration of year-round SRTS. Thousands of schools across America participate.

*This year we will plan the events to respond to COVID guidance.

Watch for more information about walking on October 7th at your school.
